UIAO Education — The Comics Tell the Story

Before you can use UIAO, you have to see what it is. That is what the Education program does. It is distinct from Training (UIAO_125): Training teaches how to use and contribute to the substrate; Education builds the conceptual mental model that makes the training stick.

The canonical syllabus is UIAO_128 — Education Program.

The comic-led modules

The program is led by a series of illustrated comics — one image per core abstraction, each rendered so that a CIO, CISO, compliance lead, or new agency staffer can absorb the concept in the time it takes to look at a picture.

Module Concept
The Governance OS UIAO is an operating system for governance, not a scanner or a doc generator
The Canonical Object How an object gets one canonical record — the SSOT anchor
The Unified Environment Map How adapters collapse many vendor surfaces into one map
Provenance Why every artifact traces back to a canonical source
The Modernization Lifecycle How a modernization runs end-to-end through UIAO
Address Governance The directory / IPAM flow formerly in GOS
Drift Detection The closed loop: scan → classify → remediate
Drift Remediation How a finding becomes a POA&M item and then a closed ticket

The comic assets live at docs/publications/series-assets/UIAO-*.jpg. Each one pairs with a short written walkthrough that grounds it in the canon and closes with one concrete question the reader should now be able to answer.

The learning arc

The program is not a feature tour. It builds a mental model in a specific order.

  1. Governance is a system, not a report or a checklist.
  2. Identity is the primitive. Everything else attaches to a canonical object.
  3. Maps replace inventories. Adapters produce one unified environment map, not a pile of spreadsheets.
  4. Provenance is non-negotiable. Every derived artifact names its canonical source and version.
  5. Modernization is a lifecycle, not a project. UIAO runs it end-to-end.
  6. Drift is the feedback signal. The substrate knows when reality has diverged from canon and reports it in a classified, prioritized form.

A learner who internalizes those six ideas is ready to enter Training and pick the Operator or Contributor track.

Formats

  • 90-minute facilitated walkthrough for agency kickoff. One comic per ~10 minutes, Q&A between.
  • Self-serve written path for anyone who cannot attend live. Sufficient on its own.
  • 45-minute auditor briefing — Provenance, Drift Detection, and Drift Remediation only.
